CDFA Awards the Eastern Monadnock Housing Security Coalition $150,000 in Tax Credits

(Peterborough, NH) – The New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA) has awarded the Eastern Monadnock Housing Security Coaltion (EMHSC) $150,000. In response to increasing demand for emergency shelter, EMHSC formed in January of 2021 to share resources, mobilize volunteers, and streamline the creation of transitional and emergency shelters within underutilized faith-based spaces. This innovative, community-driven model has proven successful in helping families and individuals experiencing homelessness remain in their communities, close to schools and careers.

Our local resource providers and welfare officers are working very hard to assist families and individuals in our communities. This award will help to support them by providing outreach & education resources, bringing in new partners, and most importantly, creating new safe and supportive shelters for those who need it when they need it.” Christine Robidoux, Chair of the EMHSC.
CDFA program funds will be used to create a sustainable organizational structure that will support their five spoke agencies and faith-based shelters and will include hiring two part-time staff.

New Hampshire needs a strong, effective nonprofit network with the capacity to support our communities and envision, create, and implement broad-based community economic development projects. CDFA’s Community Economic Development Capacity Building Program resources will support organizations like the Eastern Monadnock Housing Security Coaltion in advancing its mission and serving the needs of New Hampshire communities.
Grants are made to organizations in the form of tax equity. New Hampshire businesses support the selected projects by purchasing the tax credits, resulting in the nonprofit receiving a donation and the company receiving a 75 percent New Hampshire state tax credit against that contribution. The credit can be applied against the Business Profits Tax, Business Enterprise Tax, or Insurance Premium. About the Eastern Monadnock Housing Security Coalition (EMHSC)
The Eastern Monadnock Housing Security Coalition was founded by five resource providers in our region, covering 17 towns in western Hillsborough County and eastern Cheshire County. The agencies are Community Action Partnerships (CAPHR, Peterborough), The River Center Family & Community Resource Center (Peterborough), The Grapevine Family & Community Resource Center (Antrim), Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter (MATS, Peterborough), and Shelter from the Storm (Peterborough). Since it began, EMHSC has added 2 new transitional shelter spaces and an emergency overnight shelter. The Dublin Community Church is the fiscal agent for the EMHSC.
